Climate change and global warming have been a problem on everyone’s minds lately. But, April 22 is a day for helping and protecting the earth. Earth Day is for everyone, from the people who throw soup at oil paintings, all the way to just an average person.
Earth day was created on April 22, 1970 to help spread the word about helping the earth. The creation of this day helped get many environmental protection laws passed to help strengthen the message. Protecting our earth is really important because we only get one. We have to help save it while we can. That’s what earth day is for, helping our earth, even if it’s only a few small actions.

Anyone can help with just a few small actions, so if you don’t know where to start look here. Some simple things you can do to help is reducing the amount of energy you use, using less water (stop taking super long showers), use less fossil fuels, maybe plant some greenery, and practice the three R’s: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Volunteering and doing outside community work are also great ways to help. But, what is a student doing to help?

There are many ways to help, like mentioned above, but some people are a bit too serious. You don’t need to throw stuff at old oil paintings just because they use oil. Instead of wasting your time like that, you can clean up and make the world a little greener. But why is Earth day so important anyways?
“Earth Day is important because we need to protect our earth, because that’s what we live on. People don’t realize the need for days like this and environmental laws.” – Anonymous Gateway Student
So, for this year’s Earth day, get outside and help out around your town. Or stay inside, turning off lights you’re not using and not taking hour long showers. But, you don’t have to do anything crazy, just start small. If you want to learn more about Earth day check this site out.
