For the 2025-2026 school year, Mr. Kyle Reim was granted the Professional of the Year Award. Mr. Reim is a social worker here at Gateway and works hard to build close-knit relationships with students and his team. Mr. Reim has worked at Gateway for 9 years; before that, he was employed at Woodbury Heights Elementary. To celebrate his achievement this school year, we asked him a few questions regarding him and his career.
When asked about why he wanted to become a social worker, he shared how he always wanted to help others and work in a field where that was possible. He furthered this answer by explaining how helping those in need has always brought him joy, even if he only aided them in a small way. Although becoming a social worker was not always his original plan, “My original plan after high school was to become a police officer, but after working in an elementary school, I changed my mind and decided that I wanted to work in a school setting.”
Mr. Reim was also eager to share that he was also a Gator! Graduating as a part of the class of 2013! He also shared his favorite part about Gateway, as it related to his personal experience as a gator, “My favorite thing about Gateway is that we are a smaller school with a close-knit community. My experience at Gateway was so positive that I wanted to return and help create that same experience for future generations of students.”
Being a social worker, especially at a school like Gateway where students come from all different backgrounds, comes with a lot of positives, and Mr. Reim shared his, “Being a school social worker gives me the opportunity to connect with students, allowing me to better understand them and support their success throughout their time in school.”
Another positive about working at Gateway is staff have many opportunities, something that has always been special to Mr. Reim. His favorite memory at Gateway comes from one of those opportunities, when he went with the wrestling team to the Virginia Duels!
Finally, when Mr. Reim was asked how he felt when he heard that he won Professional of the Year, he expressed, “When I learned that I had won Professional of the Year, I felt very appreciated and surprised. It’s always a great feeling to be recognized for doing something you love.”
Thank you for another great year and for all that you do, Mr. Reim. The student body and staff greatly appreciate all that you have done and continue to do!
