The countdown for graduation is ticking! Some people are excited, some people are upset, some are scared, and some are experiencing a mix of feelings, like me.
I’m excited to start a new chapter in my life, but I’m sad that I’m leaving a lot of friends behind, and I’m scared because I don’t know what my whole future will look like besides going to college and work. The majority of my friends are younger than me. so it’s not like I can hang out with them in the morning since they’ll still be in school.
Some people don’t know what they’re doing after high school, and that’s okay, but some Gateway seniors do have a solid plan. My plan isn’t to go to college right after graduation like others are. Mine is to get another 1-2 jobs and work at my current job overnight. Then I can make a good amount of money, get a new car, get my own place, leave at least one job, and then go to college in spring 2025 to study business and and eventually law.
I’ve asked my fellow soon-to-be graduates from Gateway Regional High School what they were planning on doing after graduation.
Jolie Jean-Baptiste says she’s planning on getting a new job soon and attending RCSJ for an eventual degree in Biology. After that, she wants to go to a bigger university to study Neuroscience.
Katherine Leeds plans to have fun, go on some road trips, and get her license during the summer. After the summer she’s planning on going to Camden County Community College, to get an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology. Her ultimate goal is to become a vet technician.
Hailey Loughlin plans to find a summer job first. Then she’s going to march in DCI, and she plans on going to RCSJ for an Associate’s degree in music, and eventually another Associate’s degree in acting.
Lucas Rementer isn’t a senior, but he is already starting to plan his future post-Gateway. He said that he was planning on going into the Air Force right after graduation, and then after he’s done with that, he’s going to become a tattoo artist. Not everyone has to attend college!
It is important to remember that a 4 year college isn’t the only option! Also, you can attend college on your own unique timeframe if you choose. If you find it more financially feasible to work first and then attend college later, that is perfectly okay! Everyone’s futures will be different, and that is what makes us all unique!
