September
This school year started off with several fun games and events in different classes. Creative design went to a yearbook workshop at Saint Paul’s School, where they learned the basics of yearbook design and did team building activities. On of them was to recreate a picture on the screen with just paper. The class created Wilson for the contest, and while they did not win they had a great time!
Spanish started some review games such as Spanish scrabble! It was definitely hard after a long summer of not thinking about it, so some rules were altered to make it easier and faster. Even with that this was the only complete scrabble play! Other people played card or vocabulary games to get back into learning Spanish.
October
For Book Club the year started with a fundraiser for the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society. Over the course of two weeks, member collected money during Morning Meeting and online. Overall Gateway raised over $2000!
Then the book club took a trip to Mutt Strut, which is an annual event the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society puts on. When they got there they found out that the dog they were suppose to walk had been adopted! But with some last minute arrangement they were still able to meet dogs up for adoption and walk a one of them. It was perfect weather at the Navy Yard, and more types of dogs that you could picture, from a tiny chihuahua to a giant Scottish deerhound
Late October
October means Homecoming season! The first event surrounding Homecoming was spirit week. Then replacing the usual pep rally Gateway had the Powder Puff during the school day.
That Friday Gateway’s football team played Pitman for the Homecoming game and Senior Night. Finally, Gators dressed up for the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night!
November
While our permanent chef is out Gateway got the chance to bring in a professional chef for a couple of days. Independent Living started making their sweaters and Chemistry was playing with fire!
