Hello, freshmen, and welcome to your first year of high school! You might be feeling a lot of different emotions right now–stressed, excited, nervous, but just remember to take it one day at a time. Here is some of my advice, as a senior, to those who are newer to high school.
Try New Things
Use your freshman, sophomore, and even junior years to try new things. Go to a football game, make new friends, try a new sport or club. Let these next few years be your trial and error years so that by senior year you have a better idea of what you like and don’t like. In other words, keep your mind open and don’t narrow too much down one path. Take this time to find yourself because, trust me, you’ll appreciate it when you’re older.
Stay True to You
A lot of people are going to try to change you. They are going to try to make you believe things you don’t want to believe, maybe treat you poorly at times, and try to dull who you are. Don’t do anything you don’t want to do or that doesn’t feel like you. Also, people may rush you and ask you what you want to do when you’re older. It’s okay to say that you don’t know.
Go Slow
I know it sounds cheesy but really take every moment in. Even the moments where you are upset. It may not seem like a good thing at the time, but looking back those moments that tested me really made me who I am today.
So, enjoy being young and being happy or being upset. Because by your senior year, you’ll want to go back in time to relive it. Yes, even the bad parts.
Overall, enjoy your time in high school because it’s only four years of your life.
