Are you a fan of any type of music? Perhaps a theater kid? Or even both? There’s a class suited for you at Gateway. It’s called Musical Theater! It’s taught by the wonderful Mr. Straub, and sometimes by the student teacher, Mr. Wagner. This class teaches you almost anything you would ever want to know about theater, the arts, and music!
This class is mainly about musical theater, but it also centers around performance and acting as a whole. In the class, students get to watch musical movies and answer questions based on what they saw in each scene. An example of a musical movie you’ve probably heard of is titled Hamilton, by Lin-Manuel Miranda, based on the history of founding father Alexander Hamilton and his life and influence during the American Revolution.
In this class, you are also able to learn how to create your own stories and act them out with others! You can create skits with your classmates, such as baking a cake or cleaning the bathroom, but with fun twists. There are a lot of creative ideas that you could generate!
If you need an outlet for your feelings or want an accepting community to join, musical theater is right for you! Music is a way for people to express themselves, much like art and writing. It can also be relatable and encouraging. Music often helps people become motivated, hopeful, and determined. The acting aspect also allows you to become immersed in a whole new world and provides you with a new outlook on life.
If you are able to, I highly encourage you to select this class as a future elective because there are so many fun and exciting things to do!
