As the weather begins to cool and studying returns to our daily lives, our responsibilities begin piling up. Between school, homework, sports, clubs, jobs, and all of the other random activities that consume our days, it may start to feel overwhelming. It gets hard to put your all into everything you do, I know from personal experience. But, there are some things you can remember to make your life a little more bearable.
Keep organized! It’s a very simple idea, but so hard to execute when you already have so many things to do.
My first suggestion is to put all of your activities into a planner or calendar. This can be tangible or digital. I use both my iPhone calendar and a physical planner to keep track of my months and what I have coming up.
Another way to stay organized is to keep on top of Google Classroom. If you click on the “To-Do” section of Classroom, you will see all of the assignments that are due this week, next week, later, or have no due date. With a very simple glance, you can have a mental note of what assignments you have to do and you can plan out when you will complete them.
Stay disciplined! Self discipline is extremely important, but also very hard to maintain.
It’s easy to say you are going to complete a task, but you must follow through in order to prevent your work from piling up. As easy as it is to wait to complete your homework because of our A/B schedule, it’s not worth it. Finishing your work as soon as possible will allow you to free up time to do other, more productive activities.
Be serious about yourself, not hard. Being hard on yourself will only make you procrastinate more. But, if you are serious about yourself, you will be sure to complete your assignments correctly and on time.
Relaxation! Give yourself the time to just be. It’s difficult to find time to relax during busy periods, but its necessary to your mental and physical health. The Winchester Institute breaks down easy ways to relax in their article, “10 Ways Busy People Make Time To Relax.” They recommend finding breathing techniques and meditation that work right for you. These exercises naturally relax the body and allow you to recharge for your day. They also express how important it is to be flexible and frequently reassess your priorities. Your feelings about your activities my change, and thats okay! If you need to shift your time into other, more enjoyable aspects of your life, it will help your mental health greatly.
Always remember these three tips for getting through busy and often overwhelming parts of your life! Remember: you’re not alone! There are people just like you waiting to have a friend to lean on. So, don’t let the rush of your life blind you from all the good waiting for you!
