In early August, a series of raging wildfires broke out in the state of Hawaii, predominantly on the island of Maui. There wasn’t an official explanation as to what initially caused the fires; however, experts from NBC News explained that a possible cause of the fire was high winds that damaged the power lines.
In Hawaii, there is a total population of 1.4 million people. Out of the total 1.4 million people, approximately 166,000 live in Maui. When the wildfires began, everyone in Hawaii had to leave their homes and flee to safety. Some had no choice but to jump into the ocean or flee on their boats. The fires were extinguished four days later, but the damage had already been done. The town of Lahaina has been virtually destroyed. The wildfires burned thousands of acres, and the search to find people is still underway. As of today, 114 people have been accounted for as deceased, and 1,000 still remain unaccounted for.
Those who survived have lost most of, if not all that they own. If you are interested in helping those who experienced devastating loss from the fires, consider donating to one of many of the relief organizations.

Thank you for this reporting. I’m surprised to learn that there was no official explanation for the fires. Hopefully forensics figures it out and prevents anything like this from happening again. What a terrible tragedy.
