Spring: A Break Amidst the Pressure

Take a Breather, Students

Imagine a world that continuously moves forward and stops for nothing. For students living in the United States, this is quite the reality. The school semester is in constant motion, whether students are caught up or not. As the spring season begins to blossom, its bright weather and creative personality might just be the break overstimulated students need.

The Importance of Spring

Spring is a beautiful season that marks the beginning of growth and renewal. Feeling its warm presence after a harsh winter is a relieving contrast from a usually cold, monotone season. During the spring, rays of sunshine strike from north to south, flowers blossom, longer days emerge, and warm temperatures dance alongside fresh air.

“After being a bit shut in during the winter months, the nicer weather allows us the opportunity to get outside and get fresh air. Just being outside can clear our minds and prepare us for something new and exciting,” says Elizabeth Buehler, an English teacher from Gateway Regional High School.

During the winter, the sky is often gray and dull. Once the winter season passes, it is then spring’s job to paint the Earth with a brighter color palette. Theory of Colors, a study done by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, provided a psychological insight about how colors (especially warm, vibrant ones) affect a person’s mood.

For that reason, it is recommended to go outside during the spring instead of staying indoors; there are colors outside waiting to lift a person’s spirit. Daylight saving time assists that factor by providing longer days where it is easy to schedule evening walks, outdoor playtime, and other activities all in a singular day.

Spring Creativity

“I think that seeing nature begin to pop with color is inspiring. It’s like all the trees and flowers are waking up from their naps. Seeing those pops of color after a dreary and dull winter is beautiful and powerful. Increased sunlight can be a great energizer and mood booster,” explained Andrea Keenan, a science teacher from Gateway Regional High School.

Creativity, much like the world awakening from a deep slumber, begins to flourish as well. For photographers and artists alike, the beauty of spring supplies the perfect inspiration for new ideas, crafts, collages, and drawings. With so much to choose from, spring enhances the mind with the ability to express oneself freely.

Music is also a part of this category. Simple melodies that bring a person a sense of tranquility inspire them to do what they love, and to care for their overall well-being. This includes the sound of birds chirping, sprinkling water, and enchantments sung by the wind. Nature creates its own music, something only possible with the help of spring.

Epilogue

“All of us need a break from being indoors and constantly using technology to enjoy the world around us,” wrote Debbie Broadbelt, science teacher from Gateway Regional High School.

“These opportunities help improve focus, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being, making it easier to re-engage with learning and daily tasks,” continued Broadbelt.

Mother Nature is most visible during the spring when the weather is just right, and the decorations are in their best shape. A mother refers to a woman with tender qualities, adequate advice, and a loving touch that warms the heart. Work, whether it be from school or from the workplace can sometimes be too much for a person to handle.

And when that happens, Mother Nature is ready to welcome these people with open arms. An escape from the struggle is all they need to feel whole again. It can be as simple as bird watching, listening to running water, or even painting the flowers in a garden. Thankfully, the spring season provides just that.
