In this day and age, people are getting more scared because of the many school threats going around. Many people don’t know what to do, but others are trying to find ways to protect students and staff. One idea to fix this was to have everyone wear IDs. Yep, those itchy lanyards you always leave at your house, or the things teachers are always reminding about. Many students dislike the lanyards and IDs, so why do we have to wear them?
Well, New Jersey passed a law allowing schools to enforce IDs. In theory, the lanyards are there to keep us safe. If there’s an intruder in the building, we would all know who it is. But would that really work? There’s so many students, and many check for the blue lanyards instead of the IDs. However, they are important for safety, no matter how much students complain about them.
Speaking of students, what do some of our fellow students think? Freshmen Spencer Barrett and Riley DeFrank gave their opinions on the questions, “What is the worst part about the lanyards (and IDs)?” and “Do you think there are any positive aspects of the lanyards?”
Spencer’s response was, “I think the worst part is my picture.”
Riley said, “It scratches against your neck if you’re just wearing a T-shirt.”
Spencer added, “Besides safety, it keeps me from getting in trouble! I’m getting better about not losing mine.”
Riley shared, “It ensures that any outside visitors can’t get in.”
While only two students shared their opinions, lots of others can probably relate. But, while hating on the blue necklace we call lanyards might be fun, they are here to help. We just have to deal with them – they’re not going away any time soon.
