On June 7th, Gateway held its annual Mr Gateway Competition! It was full of smiles, laughs, and even tears. In the end, the crown went to Mr December, Cole Tice!

After a Mortal Kombat-inspired introductory video, the 12 contestants took the stage with their opening dance, choreographed by myself. In the end, they all announced themselves with their name and month. Mr DiCicco, the main host of the night, then introduced the show and the 12 judges.

Next came the beachwear portion of the competition. In month order, the contestants walked across the stage in apparel inspired by their month. Some of the outfits were… interesting to say the least. During their walk, they gave a gift to each of the judges. To close out, they each answered a question asked by myself, senior Caitlyn Snyder, and sophomore Cordelia Burns.

Some contestants came out in scandalous swimsuits like Mr. June, Brandon Bourdon, and Mr. July, Tristan Fernandez. To switch it up, Mr August, Jack Patrick came out in his best Taylor Swift gear. When asked what his favorite album of hers was, he said “Midnights.”

After beachwear, the audience’s favorite part of the show was finally up, talents! Many of the talents consisted of singing and dancing, but they all had a fun twist that made them unique to each contestant.

Mr. February, Matt Steedle came out as his version of Bruno Mars and danced to a mix of his songs. Backstage, he was asked where he got his dance moves from. He said “I don’t know. I must be a natural dancer like you guys,” meaning Caitlyn and I. How sweet!

Mr September, Steven Morlachetta proudly sang “Just the Two of Us” in reference to his connection with the host of the night, Mr DiCicco. On the side screens, he showed some (definitely not photoshopped) pictures of him and Mr DiCicco throughout their friendship.

Finally, formal wear wrapped up the competition. Each contestant came out in their fanciest outfits and a Gateway student as their escort onto the stage. Mr March, Jack O’Connell, and Junior Bella Fini came out in their best green outfits, earning lots of cheers from the audience. Mr May, Ryan Seber was escorted by Junior Shaelie Young, who wore a gorgeous pink dress.

The night ended with the top 6 being announced and the runners-up, Steven Morlachetta and Will Gentry. To see more, go to mrgateway.tv and watch the whole show!
