As a rising 9th grader, it was exciting to see all of the opportunities there are for us 8th graders next year. As I walked around, I saw a variety of classes that interested me, from TV/AV to Journalism and in a few years, maybe AP Computer Science Principles. I couldn’t believe I was actually excited for course selection!
It’s great how as a high schooler you still have the option to take classes that you are interested in beyond what is required that you take. It opens up doors for students who want to grow, such as Gateway to Careers, which helps students gain experience for careers they see themselves in one day.
For students with hobbies, like following True Crime, there’s even a class for that. New classes, such as Business Law, seem amazing, especially with charming Mr. Coble at the helm, or the tried-and-true Computer Graphics, Photography & Yearbook that never lose their allure.
Whether the course you sign up for fits your fall schedule, or the backups are what you get, all students should end up happy and challenged with something new to look forward to. Gateway really does offer us good variety!
I asked my friends what they planned to take, and some said stage design, health science classes, and in the future, Aviation. As someone who weaseled his way into Pridy’s morning meeting as an 8th grader this year, to help out with the morning announcements, I’m excited to actually earn credit for Intro. to TV/AV. It’s my top choice elective for this upcoming year.
Counselors will be calling students down in the next couple of weeks, one-by-one, to check in with you on your selections. Be patient, and stay excited for all of the new opportunities that await you.
If you don’t get your top choice, it’s because seniors get first dibs. 9th – 11th graders still have time for that favorite, sought after elective! But hey, you could get lucky as a freshman!
Happy learning!
