Basketball season is back with all thirty teams ready to get hype! After a devastating loss in the conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics by a score of 112-88, the Sixers had to face challenges to get the team back in momentum for the upcoming season.
With the last season being over, the Sixers made a huge transition in their coaching staff when they fired Doc Rivers from the head coaching position. Rivers had been coaching the Sixers for four years with the team clinching a playoff spot every year that Rivers coached. However, the Sixers didn’t make it far in the playoffs, losing in the Conference Semifinals every year since 2020.
In addition to Rivers getting fired, recently the Sixers made a huge trade with the Los Angeles Clippers sending James Harden, P.J. Tucker, and Filip Petrusev in exchange for Marcus Morris, Nic Batum, and KJ Martin, a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks, a 2029 pick-swap and an additional first-round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder. James Harden didn’t have a great relationship with the Sixers throughout the season and he wanted to start a new beginning for himself.
The Sixers hope now that they have a new head coach and the draft capital that they received from the James Harden trade, they can hopefully make it far in the upcoming season and make their fans proud. Go Sixers!
