It’s the beginning of November, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner! This year, the holiday is on the 23rd. Thanksgiving dinner is a tradition where people get together, eat their favorite foods, and have a fun time with family. But, we wondered, what are Gateway students’ favorite Thanksgiving dishes? We interviewed them to find out!
In the survey that we sent out, the first question was, “What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?” 30.3% of students voted for Turkey. Turkey has always been a fan favorite for the holiday and is not a surprise.
In second place, 21.2%, of students voted for mashed potatoes and stuffing. Mashed potatoes are an easy pick for kids and adults, something most people like. All these foods together mix well and create the best meal for Thanksgiving.
On Thanksgiving, dessert is a must-have. Our second question in the survey was, “What is your favorite Thanksgiving dessert?” 11 votes or 32.4% of people voted for ice cream. Ice cream has so many flavors. That means a wide variety and more of a chance someone will like it. Not as much of a traditional Thanksgiving treat though.
In second place in the dessert category was pumpkin pie. The flavor is more acquired, but a classic and easy for everyone to make or buy.
In an interview with Margaret Magill, a Gateway freshman, we asked her the same questions. This is what she had to say: “I like mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. Cranberry sauce tastes fruity, and I like to stay healthy.” Maggie also states, “Mashed potatoes add flavor to the rest of the dish, something I can always eat.”
In response as to what her favorite dessert is, she said, “Definitely apple pie because all the flavors mix so well, and it is the perfect combination of sweetness,” she added, “Pumpkin pie is boring and overrated.”
We also interviewed history teacher, Ms. Payne, with the same questions. She had a very strong response to what her favorite dinner food is, “Stuffing by far–it goes perfectly with everything and elevates turkey.”
She also claims that “Pumpkin pie is a classic dessert and you can’t have Thanksgiving without it.”
Ms. Pierce also contributed. She explained that creamed onions are her favorite dish. “Creamed onions have always been a tradition for us. We will always plan to keep it going.”
After asking her about her favorite dessert, she told us, “I’ve always liked pumpkin flavoring, and pumpkin pie is crucial on Thanksgiving.”
No matter what you eat, Thanksgiving is a great time for celebration and connection with your friends and family. What is your favorite Thanksgiving treat or food? Answer this survey to share!
